His farm consists of 360 acres on sections 15 and 14, improved with a nice home, substantial buildings and modern conveniences. All the improvements the place boasts were made by Mr. Olson. Mr. Olson is of Norwegian descent. His father, Sigbjorn Olson, was born at Espeland, Saude, Norway, July 8, 1824. He came to America in 1861, first settled in Illinois and a little later in Iowa. He died in that commonwealth June 28, 1909. The mother of our subject, Kari (Feveland) Olson, was born in Feveland, Saude, Norway, June 26, 1824, and was married in the old country. She now makes her home with her son. To these parents, in Story county, Iowa, on July 2, 1866, John A. Olson was born. When he was a year old the family moved to Webster county, Iowa, and John lived there with his parents on the farm until he reached his majority, having received a district school education. Before he was twenty-one years old Mr. Olson was married. Then he moved to Humboldt county and engaged in farming until 1901. That year he moved to Yellow Medicine county, bought his present farm in Tyro, and has lived on it since, except two years, when he lived in Clarkfield. Mr. Olson has been a clerk of Tyro township for the past seven years and also holds the office of justice of the peace. For the past three years he has been clerk of school district No. 29. The marriage of Mr. Olson to Mary Lund occurred in Humboldt county, Iowa, December 1, 1886. She was born in Benton county, Iowa, January 14, 1868. Her father was Jens P. Lund, who was born in Fedt, Kvindherred, Norway. December 1, 1816, came to America in 1860 and settled in Clinton county, Iowa; he died September 29, 1888. Cecillia Lund, the mother of Mrs. Olson, was born at Lund, Kvinherred, Norway, February 10, 1826, was married in the old country, and now lives in Yellow Medicine county. Mr. and Mrs. Olson have the following children: Selma, born March 4, 1889; Jennie, born October 3, 1891; Clarence, born July 5, 1894; Laura, born September 25, 1896; Edna, born June 20, 1900; Arnold, born June 27, 1902; and Cecilia, born July 29, 1906.
