In the sixties they came to Yellow Medicine county and homesteaded in Sandnes township, a brother, Johannes Olson, taking an adjoining claim. The Olsons came in wagons drawn by oxen. Their meals on the claim were frequently taken with the Indians, who were quite numerous. There was one other man in the township when they arrived, Peter Berry. Sigur Olson built a log shanty, in which the family lived a number of years and in which Ole S. was born. Sigur Olson lived on the old place until a year before his death, when he sold out and moved to Normania township. He died on his farm there in 1905, at the age of seventy-four years. His wife had died about three years before. There are six children: John, of Normania township;Ole S., of this sketch;Sam, of Chippewa county; Annie (Mrs. Goodman Urdal), of Ostlun, Minnesota; Margaret (Mrs. Gabriel Anderson), of Lyon county; and Ingebor (Mrs. Gelga Gulickson), of Sandnes township. He then bought his uncle's farm on section 29, Sandnes township, where he lived many years. In February, 1912, he moved to Hanley Falls and bought his present business of John Lee. He carries a line of confectionery, fruits, cigars, etc., and serves lunches. Mr. and Mrs. Olson have six children living, viz: Luella, Selma, Ruby, Newall, Herbie and Ordel.
