Vold is the owner of the east half of the southeast quarter of section 35 and the west half of the southwest quarter of section 36, Friendship township, where he lives and farms 160 acres of land. Mr. Vold was born in Norway December 19, 1878, and is a son of John and Gurina (Skjervold) Skjervold. His parents both died in Norway, his mother when he was seven years old and his father in 1911. The subject of this sketch was brought up on a farm in Norway and worked out at farm work as soon as he was old enough, living in that country until he was nearly twenty years of age. In 1898 he came to the United States, coming direct to Yellow Medicine county and locating in Hazel Run township. For three years he worked out at farm work in Hazel Run and Sandnes townships. He then rented the farm he now owns in Friendship township, and has farmed it ever since, buying the place in the summer of 1913. Mr. Vold is a director of school district No. 28 and has served two years; he was also road overseer two years. He is a member of the United Norwegian Lutheran church of Hazel Run. Hilda Johnson, who was born in Sweden September 20, 1878, and came to the United States in 1898, became the wife of Mr. Vold May 18, 1901, the marriage ceremony taking place in Friendship township. They have the following children: Johnnie Olander, born January 14, 1902; Alvilda Theresa, born October 30, 1903; George Leonard, born October 2, 1906; Esther Gunelie, born February 2, 1909.
