SCHLEMMER (1884) Philip J. Schlemmer owns and farms 280 acres of Yellow Medicine county land, the same being the northwest quarter and the northwest quarter of section 28, and the south half of the southwest quarter of section 21, Posen township. He is quite an extensive stock raiser. Mr. Schlemmer was born in a dugout on the farm now owned by John Monroe, in Lucas township, Lyon county, Minnesota, September 14, 1881. He is a son of Peter and Christina Schlemmer, native of Germany. The father came to the United States at the age of nineteen years and located in Lyon county in 1877. He is now a resident of St. Paul. The mother came with her parents from the old country when nine years of age. She died September 11, 1902. At the age of three years, in 1884, Philip J. Schlemmer came to Yellow Medicine county with his parents, the family locating on section 29. He was educated in the schools of the county and worked for his father until 1906. He then rented the home place and farmed it until 1913. In 1911 he bought from his father 120 acres of his present farm, and in the winter of 1912-13 he bought from August Stroschein the rest of it, moving on same in the fall of 1913. Mr. Schlemmer was clerk of school district No. 51 about ten years. Emma Dubbe became the wife of Mr. Schlemmer November 10, 1905, the ceremony taking place at Vesta, Minnesota. Mrs. Schlemmer was born in the township of Springdale, Scott county, Minnesota, October 10, 1881. They have one child, Lydia, born October 20, 1906.
