Mr. Schulz is a native of Germany, where he was born April 24, 1869, a son of August and Henrietta Schulz. The family came to the United States in 1880, coming direct to Yellow Medicine county and locating on the northeast quarter of section 21, Wood Lake township. After a residence of over thirty years in Yellow Medicine county, the mother died in October 1911, and the father in January, 1913. A younger brother of our subject, Otto, now owns the old home farm. Martin Schulz was eleven years of age on his arrival to the United States. He has already had several years of German schooling, and in the English schools of Yellow Medicine county he finished his education. His younger days were spent on the farm with his parents, and he remained at home and assisted with the work there until twenty-four years of age. He then struck out for himself, and his present home surroundings show that he has made a winning effort in his life's work. Mr. Schulz was married July 12, 1900, at Hazel Run, to Emma Kirschbaum, who was born in Yellow Medicine county. They have one child, Ella. Mr. Schulz is a member of the German Lutheran Church of Wood Lake. Source: A History of Yellow Medicine County by Arthur P. Rose. Published 1914
