SEBEY (1895) Carl P. Sebey is the junior member of the firm of Homme & Sebey, dealers in hardware, farm machinery, wagons, buggies, pumps, gas engines and tinware at Echo. Mr. Sebey was born on his father's homestead in Renville county, Minnesota, April 7, 1873. He grew up on the farm and when twenty-four years of age started out for himself. He came to Yellow Medicine county and for some ten years worked his 260-acres farm in Sioux Agency township. In 1905 he moved to Echo and bought the hardware store of W. H. Gary, then conducted in the building now occupied by Ose's restaurant, which building he still owns. He conducted the store until February, 1910, when he bought a half interest in the Homme hardware store. He has since been in business as a member of the firm Homme & Sebey. Mr. Sebey was married in Sioux Agency township June 19, 1897, to Julia Gjermundson, a native of Sioux Agency township, daughter of Ole Gjermundson. They have five children: Theresa, Prescott, Gladys, Odella and Carl. Carl P. is a son of Paul P. Sebey, a native of Norway. Paul P. Sebey came to the United States in 1862, lived in Fillmore county, Minnesota, for a time, and moved to Renville county in the early sixties, settling in Hawk Creek township. He was the first white settler of that county. He died on the old homestead about eighteen years ago. His wife who was Julia Budall, lives at Echo. They had five children: Gust, Loui, Carl P., Edward and Gina, the wife of Rev. John Voldseth, of Ortonville. The subject of this sketch is a member of the village council and of the school board. He is a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Echo. He formerly belonged to the Sioux Agency Lutheran church as was one of the contributors to the building of that church.
