SKORSETH (1892) Ole B. Skorseth, manager of the C. M. Youmans Lumber Company at Canby, was born at Lillehammer, Faaberg, Norway, June 13, 1874. He is a son of Engebret and Ingeborg (Hattestad) Skorseth, both of whom still live in their native land. Ole attended the common schools of Norway and resided in the land of his birth until eighteen years old. Then he came alone to America and for a short time made him home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole E. Skorseth, of Canby. He worked at farm work the first season and attended school the next winter. For four years thereafter he worked at the carpenter trade and then took up the lumber business. For two years Mr. Skorseth was employed by the Canby Lumber Company and for four years by the Tofthagen Lumber Company. At the end of that time he bought a one-fourth interest in the Canby Lumber Company, was elected manager, and conducted the business until the company disposed of its business two years later. Mr. Skorseth then bought an interest in the Youmans Company and has since been manager of the local branch. He deals in lumber and all kinds of building material. Mr. Skorseth was married in Canby August 30, 1904, to Emma L. Anderson. His wife was born in Canby July 24, 1881, and is a daughter of Christian and Karen (Engelstad) Anderson, natives of Norway and residents of Canby. Mr. and Mrs. Skorseth have one child, Thurman F., born July 2, 1905. They are members of St. Paul's Norwegian Lutheran Church. Source: A History of Yellow Medicine County by Arthur P. Rose.
