Stevens is one of the large farm operators of Yellow Medicine county. He rents 400 acres belonging to the estate of his father, and with a brother he farms another half section, which they own. His farm home is the old home of his father on the northwest quarter of Minnesota Falls township. The north half of the northeast quarter of section 32, Minnesota Falls township, and 160 acres in Hazel Run township complete the 400 acres of rented land. With his brother he owns the northeast quarter of section 31 and northwest quarter of section 32, Minnesota Falls township. Mr. Stevens was born in Sandnes township February 7, 1879. His is a son of James and Anna Stevens, both natives of Norway. They came to the United States in their younger days and settled in Wisconsin, where they were married. The came to Minnesota in pioneer days and were among the very first settlers of Sandnes township, where the father homesteaded--a farm which yet belongs to the estate. They lived on the old home farm many years and then took up residence on another piece near by, which Mr. Stevens purchased. In 1901 they moved to the northwest quarter of section 33, Minnesota Falls township, where they made their home for two years and then moved to Hanley Falls. There the father died in December 1912; the mother still lives. During the long life of the father in Yellow Medicine county he had added to his lands from time to time until he owned at the time of his death 480 acres, and he had previously sold 780 acres. Albert J. Stevens grew to a man's estate in Sandnes township and was educated in the schools of the county. He later attended the Normal School at Madison, Minnesota, three years. He started out to work for himself at the age of eighteen, when he rented, with is brother, a half section. In 1902 he purchased his present holdings and has since been successfully operating the farms. He is a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church at Hanley Falls. Mr. Stevens was married June 23, 1909, at Hanley Falls, to Mary Gilbertson, a native of Yellow Medicine county, being a daughter of Martin Gilbertson, one of the early settlers. They have one child--Arden. Source: "A History of Yellow Medicine County" by Arthur P. Rose Published 1914
