STRATTON (1878) Frank E. Stratton, proprietor of the Owl restaurant at Granite Falls, was born in Hortonville, Wisconsin, May 19, 1873. At the age of five years he moved to Granite Falls with his parents. There he grew to manhood and was educated in the city schools. He began his business career by accepting the position of grain buyer in an elevator at Green Valley, where he worked three years. Then for two years he clerked in a store at Granite Falls. Thereafter he engaged in manufacturing cigars and for three years was the proprietor of a cigar factory at the Granite city. Mr. Stratton then went to Sherwood, North Dakota, and took up a homestead, also running a restaurant there about two years. Returning to Minnesota, he engaged in the saloon business at Sacred Heart, thus being engaged about one year. After that he was employed two years as a bartender in Montevideo. He then returned to Granite Falls and conducted a saloon one year and for the next four or five years was engaged as bartender. In January 1912, Mr. Stratton opened his present business in the Neste building, where he runs a neat and up-to-date restaurant. In addition to meal service he makes a specialty of short orders. The place has day and night service--open all the time--hence, the name which it bears, the Owl. Mr. Stratton was married at Granite Falls in 1908 to Katherine Larsen, a native of Denmark. They had one child, Edwin, who died at the age of one year. Source: A History of Yellow Medicine County by Arthur P. Rose. Published 1914
