THORHAUG (1890) Ole and Carrie Thorhaug own and farm 240 acres on section 33, Friendship township, also forty acres in Normania township. Mr. Thorhaug was born in Wisconsin, November 28, 1862. His father, Nels Thorhaug, came to the United States in an early day and located in Wisconsin, on a farm, after which he moved to Blue Mounds village where he died in 1907. The mother, Annie (Severson) Thorhaug, was also a native of Norway, and like her future *hus-life and located in Wisconsin, where she was married. She died in Blue Mounds in 1902. (* Must be a typo) Ole Thorhaug grew to manhood and was educated in the schools of Wisconsin. At the age of fifteen he began to work on a farm, continuing for eight years. He was married at that time and moved to Jackson county, Minnesota, where he bought land and farmed four years. He then sold and came to Yellow Medicine county in 1890, bought his present home place, and has since been engaged in its operation. At the time of purchase it was all wild prairie, but Mr. Thorhaug has handsomely improved the place, and it is now rated as one of the finest farm homes in Yellow Medicine county, with an excellent orchard. The farm specialty is the raising of Short-horn cattle. Mr. Thorhaug is chairman of the board of supervisors of Friendship township, a position he has held for three years; has been supervisor for nine years. He and his family are members of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Spring Creek, in Normania township. Carrie Anderson was married to Mr. Thorhaug at Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, May 16, 1886. Her parents were also native of Norway, coming to the United States in early life and locating in Wisconsin. They both died in the village of Blue Mounds. Five children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Thorhaug, as follows: Annie (Mrs. Alfred Jacobson), of Yellow Medicine county, born September 10, 1887; Oliver, who lives at home, born January 1, 1889; Carl G. born August 19, 1892, died August 13, 1910; Andrew, born August 23, 1897; Ida, born March 23, 1901.
