The remains reached Canby on Friday morning and the funeral services and internment were on Saturday afternoon. She had been a resident of Minnesota for about 73 years. Mary Experience Oaks, widow of the late James Little, was born in a log cabin near LaPorte, IN, September 15, 1842. Came with her parents to Oronoco, Olmstead County, Minnesota, in the year 1854, where her father had taken a pre-emption. The family moved to Rochester, 8 years later, where she was living when she was married in 1867 to James Little, a veteran of the Civil War. With her husband and three children she came to Canby, MN in 1878 and settled on a claim in Hammer township, where they lived until they moved to Canby in 1905. After the death of her husband in the year 1912, she went to live with her son Reuben in St. Paul. She was active and able to care for herself personally until within 3 days of her death, her last illness lasting only ten days. She leaves on earth four sons and twelve grandchildren, one son and an only daughter having preceded her in death. The remains were brought to Canby Friday morning to be placed in the family cemetery lot besides those of her late husband. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 PM for Backer Bros undertaking parlors and from the Presbyterian church, Rev E N Prentice officiating. She was buried in the family lot, beside her husband in the Canby Cemetery. She had been a member of three old settlers organizations, in tow of which she was a pioneer. She belonged to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, St Paul, the Territorial Pioneers of Minnesota, and was a Daughter of the American Revolution.
