He is the son of David and Rebecca (Weaver) Bonham. He was reared on the farm, and received a practical education in the country schools. He is a progressive man, and with the exception of the time he was in the army, has spent his life in farming and stock raising. In 1862 he enlisted in Company D, Fourth Missouri State Militia, and was mustered out of the service in 1865. In 1853 he was united in marriage with Harriet Elliot, and four sons and four daughters have been born unto them. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and of the G.A.R. In politics he is a Republican.
