Jesse, of Cumberland County, VA., was an Old School Baptist preacher. He married Polly A. Parker, and they had sixteen children: John P., Icham T., Mary A., Susan, Sally G., William J., Jesse S., Royal A., Paulina E., Cyrus S., Maria H., Alexander and James M., several of whom died in childhood.
