BERTIE LEE7 ADDINGTON (ELIHU6, JOSEPH5, JOHN4, HENRY3, JOHN "LORD SIDMOUTH LL"2, HENRY "LORD SIDMOUTH"1) was born Abt. 1865 in Randolph County, Indiana, and died in McCalister, Pittsbury County, Oklahoma. He married MELVIA CAROLINA LONG September 20, 1890 in Barry County, Missouri, daughter of GEORGE LONG and SARAH SMITH. BERTIE LEE ADDINGTON: one of the oldest living descendants of Quigley Long (who was an uncle to Melvia Carolina Long) related to Donna Cooper that the Long family had told her that Bertie Addington went to prision for stealing horses and that was he had been sent to McAlister, Oklahoma. Bertie L. Addington was listed on the Oklahoma Territory 1900 and 1910 census with a wife and two children. It is now believed had he gone to prision -- he would have done so in his own state -- not in a territory of the United States. The prision at McAlister stated that they had no record of a imprisonment for Bertie L. Addington. It is thought, however, that he probably deserted his family and went to Oklahoma Territory where he was not only safe from the law but where he could have another family without it being known that he had a left behind a family in Barry Co., MO. And who knows maybe he was a horse thief, too. It is known that Bertie Addington had a brother who was a Sheriff in Atchison Co., Kansas, which even makes the family story of imprisonment a little more questionable. The worse and most unlawful acts that he committed, according to the family, was selling horses that he did not own which in those days was a serious crime.
