My father, George W. King, was born in the state of Ohio in 1816. My mother, who was Caroline Stubblefield, was born in Fayette County, State of Ohio, in 1818. They moved to Barry County Missouri in 1837. I was born in Barry County Missouri November 3, 1842. My mother had three boys, Joseph, George and Richard; and two girls, Jane and Rebecca. My mother died in 1845. Father married Miss Malinda Vermillion, by whom he raised eight children. But one, Mahala, died in infancy. The rest all lived to raise families. I enlisted in the Union Army, first in April 1861; second, June 20, 1861; and third, May 10, 1862. Was finally discharged August 27, 1865, and arrived home September 1, 1865. Your mother and I were married January 4, 1866. Our first child, Richard, was born June 10, 1867, and only lived six weeks. He is buried at the Jones Cemetery in Stone County Missouri near my father's grave. Mother is buried at the Stubblefield Cemetery in Barry County Missouri. I lived in Stone County Missouri until March 1870. Then I moved to Jenkins, Barry County Missouri, and lived there till April 1897, when we started to Idaho, and landed there August 9, 1897. As you know, your mother died and was buried at Twin Falls, March 23, 1912. I joined the Masons at Fayetville, Arkansas, in the summer of 1863. My last membership in that order was in Cassville, Missouri. I never joined any lodge in the west. I have been a farmer all my life, and I've held several public positions in life, having been a Second Lieutenant and Captain in the army and was twice elected to represent my country in the lower house of the Missouri legislature. Several times I was nominated and defeated for public positions of trust and honor. I am now nearly 72 years old and enjoying good health, but too lonesome to enjoy life. Your loving father, George R. *Captain George Reeves King died at Winchester, Lewis County, Idaho on March 16, 1934 at age 91. He is buried in Twin Falls Cemetery, Twin Falls, Twin Falls County, Idaho. Return to Online Data Index Return to Barry County © 1999 Susan Tortorelli All Rights Reserved
