Barry County, Missouri, Burton Cemetery Corcicana Township (T24N R28W-S32) Between Butterfield & Wheaton. From Butterfield take W east, from Wheaton take W west. Turn North at FR1052 and stop just as it turns sharply east (right). The cemetery will be straight west of you approximatly 1/2 mi into the pasture on a hill. Transcribed in 1990 by Lanny & Mary Homesley at that time the cemetery was in very poor condition and they had a hard time finding any of the stones. Mary is the G-Grandaughter of George H. & Samira J. (Burton) Higgs W.J. Burton December 25, 1838 - February 01, 1909 (William Jesse Burton, son of John K. and Elizabeth Bradley Burton and brother to my gg- grandmother, Samira Burton Higgs, he was also a Confederate Soldier) JKB footstone marker (John K. Burton said to be the first buried in this cemetery. He was shot by Major Moore's men, Federal Soldiers, in 1862 when he answered the front door of his home - Goodspeeds 1888 Barry County, MO) JKB (Jr) footstone marker (John K. Burton son of John K. and Elizabeth Bradley Burton, He was known as Uncle Doc. He was the husband of Tennessee Bradley Burton who was buried in Clark Cemetery because when she died, it was too muddy for them to get into Burton Cemetery to bury her by Uncle Doc, so she was buried in Clark beside her father, Lawrence Bradley) Cordelia E. daughter of J.K. and E. Burton born Feburary 02, 1853 - died September 30, 1879 CEB footstone Jessie G. daughter of L.M. Burton Feburary 12, 1909 - April 12, 1913 Budded on Earth to Bloom in Heaven (Grace, daughter of Oliver and Lidia Mae Burton) Estus Burton (Cordelias Estus Burton) These are all the stones we found. ................................... Family knowledge, much of it given to Mary by Anna Burton states - There is a baby buried there in a shoe box. Samira J. Burton Higgs - wife of George Higgs, daughter of John K. and Jane Foster Burton born August 1834 - 1900 Federal Census, died after December 30, 1905 (I have a land deed she signed with this date) George H. Higgs - husband of Samira J., son of John K. and Martha Harrison Higgs born July 1823 - 1900 Federal Census, died after December 30, 1905 (I have a land deed he signed with this date) Elizabeth Bradley Burton - second wife of John K. Burton Jane Foster Burton died about 1850 - first wife of John K.
