Barry County, Missouri Mitchell Family Cemetery, Sugar Creek Township (T21N R28W S15) Transcribed May 2003 by Brandon Burns North of Seligman: From Seligman go north on Blockade Rd. (FR 1070). Turn west on FR 2270. The cemetery is on the left. Or from Highway 37, turn east on FR 2270. The cemetery we be on the right near the intersection with FR 1070 The cemetery is located on property previously owned by Rev. Joel Franklin Mitchell and his wife Roseanna (Simpson) Mitchell. They came to Seligman from Warren County, Tennessee, where they were both born, in 1830 in a covered wagon. He was born in 1795 to Thomas and Mary Mitchell. She was born in 1816. They built a two-room log cabin two miles north of Seligman. Joel and his oldest son William were killed by bushwhakers in 1864 just south of the barn on the farm. Rose died on November 17, 1898 in Seligman at the age of 82. The other burial is that of Joel and Rose's grandson, John, son of Richard and Jane (Mitchell) Pallet. Also buried at this cemetery is the infant daughter of Joel and Rose Mitchell, Adeline. Her name is not on the stone. Joel and Rose had the following children: Adeline Mitchell, William Franklin Mitchell, John H. Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, Jane (Mitchell) Pallet, Martha Amanda (Mitchell) Hammers Brummett, Susan Elvira (Mitchell) Collier, James Monroe Mitchell, and Sarah C. (Mitchell) Arnhart.
