Barry County, Missouri Stubblefield Cemetery Jenkins Township (T24N-R26W-S15) Located N/W of Jenkins, MO; W of the Flat Creek. From the intersection of 39 & 248 in Jenkins take 248 South (S/W) (sign says Cassville X miles) to FR 1195 and turn right (north). After a straight stretch the road will turn sharply back west, then sharply back north. In a very short time it will start curving west again. The cemetery will be on your left (west) right before it starts curving west that last time. If you get to FR1182 you went too far. The photo above was taken on June 2, 2001 and shows the back section of the cemetery. This cemetery is still in use and well cared for, many stones are very weathered and unreadable. There are a large number of graves missing stones, stones with only the base left and unreadable rocks. Stubblefield/Smith family researchers, be sure to see the note at the bottom of this listing! -------transcriptions below--------------- Name Born Died Source ALLEN, Margaret M. Donna Cooper, the Barry Cemetery books by Joan Kunkel and the microfilm record of this cemetery found at Family History libraries all agree that the SMITH name is what is carved on these headstones. The controversy however is that many folks feel this John and Matilda were actually named STUBBLEFIELD. To add to this confusion and quoting from "Barry County Cemeteries" by Joan Kunkel, OLD Stubblefield Cemetery. "The following members of the Stubblefield family are said to be buried here, but there are no stones." The book then goes on to list several Stubblefield's, including John S. and Matilda, along with several other family members. John S. with dates of "Jan 1, 1829-Aug 2, 1879, son of Edw. & Sarah of VA." Matilda with "May 24, 1831---no date" The odds of a John and Matilda Smith and a John and Matilda Stubblefield showing the same dates, being in two different cemeteries in the same county are slim to none but this is the info we have. If you have documentation to clear this up PLEASE contact me.
