Barry County Missouri Ancestors - The Beaty/Wainright Family 3 Research notes of the late Helen (Daughtery) Wainright Copy of AGEE BEE (Top and last pages lost, but it was written by a Rev. J.W. Agee, in about 1892.) (page one) THE AGEE BEE Where shall I begin. I have met with several different AGEE families and heard of several others. All with whom I have talked trace their record back to Virginia ancestors. I have, therefore, claimed kin with every AGEE, except a colored preacher I have heard of in Jefferson City, Mo. The place to begin is at the beginning. Our starting point, therefore, is in the Bible, 2 Samuel 23:11 - "And after him was Shammah the Son of Agee the Haratite." No AGEE need be ashamed of this part of the record. The only difficulty is in getting our record linked back to it.. There are, no doubt, many missing links. Yet, it seems that no family of the whole earth has a better fight than we to assume the connection. Let us claim it and perfect our title if we can. We should, however, remember that our life is not what our ancestors did for us, but it is what each of us makes his or her own life. The first known link is one Matthew Agee, a Protestant who came from France in 1690 because of the Huguenot persecution. Settled in Virginia, married, I wish I knew whom, and just where they lived. They had four children: Isaac, James, Anthony and one daughter who married Austin. She and Isaac left no heirs. I do not know that Isaac ever married. James married a FORD and lived near Maysville, in Buckingham County, Virginia. His farm and his son Joseph's farm joined and at his death he gave his farm to Joseph. The latter sold both places to Robert Shaw. James and wife lived together 74 years and both died in 1821, aged respectively 96 and 92 years. His house waas a preaching place for seventy years; week-day preaching twice a month and on Sunnday by local preachers every two weeks. Bishop Asbury preached at his house. He fed all who came and would stay to eat and yet he was never "eat out." His home was used as a preaching place as long as Joseph, his son, lived in Virginia. Anthony had 11 sons and 1 daughter; James, 6 sons and 6 daughters. I think it quite probable that all the Agees in the United States descended from these two men. Or I would say from their children whom I shall refer to as the "24". And to more readily distinguish them I will number them. Every Agee or descendent ought to be able to trace his record back to one of the "24". I would like to know whom Anthony married and where he lives. All the record I have of his family is given with the names of his children. (page two) THE "24" Jame's children: 1. Noah, moved to Alabama 2. James 3. Jacob 4. John, married to Sicily Ann Hall 5.
