GEORGE7 LONG (son of JOHN DAKE Long and grandson of HIRAM D. Long) was born December 10, 1848 in Douglas Co., Missouri, and died February 01, 1927 in Pierce City, Lawrence Co., Missouri. He married SARAH FRANCIS SMITH November 11, 1869 in Barry Co., Missouri, daughter of JILES SMITH and SARAH SINGLETON. Notes for GEORGE LONG: It is known that George Long was called "Old Wig". George Long had two fingers missing. Opal McClure, George's granddaughter, said she remembered hearing that George was a water boy during the war. She indicated that he was carrying a bucket of water to a fellow solider when someone shot the bucket out of his hand. His military records list him as 5 foot 2 1/2 inches tall. January 13, 1873, Barry Co., Missouri; d. 1938, Barry Co., Missouri; m. Lottie J. Mikles. Notes for Giles Lehew (Buddy) Long: He and his wife Lottie J. are buried at Kings Prairie, Barry Co., Mo. At the same cemetery was John Long born Nov 12, 1849 deid Dec 23, 1924. Nancy A. (wife) born Aug 20, 1840 died July 16, 1911.
