Barry County Missouri - A Letter To Fannie Lowe A Letter To Fannie Lowe This letter was written by the mother of Anne Lozano in 1981. It contains the names of many of her friends and loved ones who lived in Barry County 8/20/1981 Dallas, Texas Dear Fannie, I don't know when I ever enjoyed a letter as much as I have the one I received from you yesterday. I was afraid you wouldn't write as I had been so long in answering yours-tho I kept it right here where I usually sit to do my writing, telephoning etc. An explanation ,maybe, I just put it off. But really no excuse except neglect. I got out an old box of pictures the other day -must have been some of Grandmother Lee's. and I have some more I am going to enclose. One of the Gray children. If some of you go to the Lowe reunion maybe you will want to give it to Earl if he is there and tell him "Hello" for me, also one of you and Horace together with Fay and Earl. How well I remember when Joe died and the Flu of 1918. We lived in Cassville real close to Aunt Mandy and Mother took care of Joe until he died. Of course there were no hospitals or nurses and most everyone was too scared of the Flu to go near it-but Mother didn't believe in running from things instead of facing them and none of us had it. I stayed with friend that did and gave medicine and helped with school homework. The whole family did whatever seemed to be needed., The only the prevention was a nose and throat spray with antiseptics that everyone used every time they came in or out and as often as we needed. We knew Faye long before she knew Joe . Mother had a chronic kidney disorder in those days and was bedfast quite often. Faye came to stay and help us out and immediately became like one of the family and still is. She lives in Vallejo, California and I talk to her always during the Christmas season and we exchange letters once in awhile between times. Blaine and his second wife stopped by to visit me a few years ago. Long, long ago, when he was quite young, Blaine used to visit us and joined the Marine Corp while here. There was a Cassville girl that came to help, when my sister and I were in Springfield Business College, that became one of the family and she and I are still close tho far apart in miles, Luna Thomas from out Pasley or Horner way I don't know if you ever knew her or not. Luna lives in Virginia now. There is a Jim Lowe here that runs a Radio show and has talked about the other Jim Lowe who I believe is on Radio in New York City now and said he was from Springfield but somehow I never connected him with the Dr. Lowe I knew in Springfield. Dr. Lowe's office was close to mine in Springfield and we used to visit and talk about Barry County There were some other relatives over at Butterfield but I believe they were on Grandmother Lee's side. John and Tennie Cates had a son,Harry, who was killed by gas in WW1 when the Mines were active "Over There". Fannie Lowe Bradley's husband Dick Bradley was some relation to Grandmother Lee. I believe his mother was referred to as Aunt"Nade" Bradley. Mother's name was "Ebbie Nade" and that is probably where it came fromm. Then Mother was just called "Ebbie". Grandmother Lee's brother, Barry Porter,(I don't know other " Porters")had a daughter, Ethel, and one son( I don't if he had other children.) They lived in Monett on Marshall Hill as did Aunt Catherine's family and at one time Jom and Mandy. In fact they were living there when Bert was killed "hopping" a train down to Purdy to a ballgame. I would like to have the addresses of any of Grandfather Lee's descendents you have. If you will enclose them when you write. Somewhere I have an obituary notice of Grandfather Lee's mother and also his obituary. I will dig them out and send you a copy. I will try to get it in this letter. Her given name was Sarah (Sally " Sarah Ebbinate" West ) and she had one daughter, Nan, and three sons, Andrew(Uncle Andy, Norman and Savannah Lee's father),Elbert(Dr. E. J. Lee(Uncle Bert who had two sons, Dr. E. J. Lee. JR. and Jim, a Minister. And of course, the third son was my Grandfather, Jerry R. Lee(Jeremiah Rains Lee). Grandfather(Jeremiah R. Lee) also had another wife and family, or at least a son, William and a daughter, Louisa. Return to Online Data Index <../barry.htm>Return to Barry County © 1999 Susan Tortorelli All Rights Reserved
