Barry County Missouri - Martha's Story

Martha Skelton was the daughter of James and Mary Skelton, born in  1849
in Barry County. She married Benjamin Franklin Curry in 1882.

Martha told a story of when she was fourteen years old. She and a friend
were together when they heard a man's voice, calling for  help.  He  had
been shot by bushwhackers and when they finally located him, he was  too
far gone to be helped. Martha and  her  friend  went,  after  nightfall,
loaded the body in a wheelbarrow, took him to a cemetery and buried him.
They had no idea who he was.

Martha died in 1933. She and her husband  Benjamin  are  buried  in  the
Munsey Cemetery.
