Barry County Missouri Ancestors - Sarah Singleton Smith Sarah Singleton Smith Born about 1827 in Union Co, SC. Submitted by: Donna Cooper Sarah Singleton Smith was born about 1827 in Union Co, SC. She was the dt of John and Elizabeth Singleton. Sarah and her husband, Jiles Smith, came early to Barry Co., as did some of Jiles' brothers. Jiles was a horseman and bred thoroughbred horses and he died in Texas, but Sarah died Barry Co. It is not known where she is buried but probably in unmarked grave at Bethel Cemetery near Purdy. She and Jiles had a number of children, one was Sarah Francis Smith who married George Long. George Long was the son of John Dake and Lavina Bellah Long. George and Sarah are buried at Coriscana. CHARLES2 SMITH (JAMES1) was born Abt. 1788 in Union Co., SC., and died in Rhea Co., Tennessee. He married NANCY JACOBS Abt. 1818 in Union Co., SC, daughter of JACOB JACOBS and ELIZABETH //. Charles Smith fought in the Florida War. He joined the Tennessee Mounted Volunteers on Novemeber 3, 1837. He was injured and died in Baton Rouge, La. He must have known he was dying as he made out a will 2 days before he died. He left each of his children $25.00 each to be collected when they reached their 21st birthday. George Long and Sarah Francis Smith were married in Barry Co., Mo by Rev. John Hudson, 11 Nov 1869. They are buried at Coriscana Cemetery, near Purdy, Barry Co., Missouri. After George's death, on the papers for the VA Mrs Dove Shands stated that George Long lived at her home at the time of his death in Pierce City, Missouri. Cause of Death: George Long, influenza.
