Alexander, William-Son of James Alexander. Lived in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Allred, J.W.-Gave affidavit as to Alsey Cannon’s marriage to William Cannon. Amos, Marshal P.-Affidavit given August 1891-address Butterfield, Barry County. States that he knew William Cannon before the war but did not see him for several years prior to his enlistment. Saw William Cannon in September 1862 “at his home in Webster Co., MO.” 1895-age 63 years-a farmer-2 ½ miles N.E. of Butterfield. Henderson, Andrew J.- Affidavit given 7th April, 1882-A.J. Henderson -age 50 years- Purdy, County of Barry, Missouri- Has known the soldier since 1857. Deposition given 27th February, 1883- Andrew J. Henderson-age 51-occupation Farmer and Miller-Post Office Purdy, Barry County, Missouri.- Has known soldier since about 1857 and resided within about 3 miles of him at and before enlistment. Stated that William Cannon led the hymns at church. Henderson, Francis M. -Affidavit given 7th April, 1882- F.M Henderson of Purdy, county of Barry, state of Missouri. Says that his age is 51 years and he has known the soldier since 1857. Deposition on given 26th February, 1883-Francis M. Henderson- age 51 years-occupation farmer-Post Office Purdy, Barry County, Missouri. Resided about 2 ½ miles from soldier until his enlistment.- Henderson, Pleasant P.- Affidavit given 6th April 1882 - P.P. Henderson of Pierce City, County of Barry, Missouri. Says that his age is 46 years and he has known the claimant ..for the past 11 years. Deposition given 27th February, 1883 - Pleasant P. Henderson- gives his age as 53, occupation Farmer-Post Office, Purdy, Barry Co., MO. Houston, George-Present at William Cannon’s death. Lived 1895 on Flat Creek, McDowell, Barry County. Johnson, Mary M. [Riggs]-1895-41 years of age. The adopted daughter of William Cannon and his first wife Melitia. She stated that when she was about three years of age, Wm. Cannon …."took me into his home and raised me". She married the brother of Alsey Cannon, her adopted father’s second wife. In 1895 she and her husband Matthew Johnson lived two miles S.E. of Erie, McDonald County, Missouri. Johnson, Matthew D.-1895-61 years of age. Brother of Alsey [Johnson] Peters Cannon and husband of Mary M. [Riggs] Johnson above. Kennedy, Benjamin F. & Kennedy, James H.- Affidavit given 1877. Ages 48 & 45-knew William Cannon to be an ordained deacon of Bethel Church. They became acquainted with him at Bethel Church in June 1857. Lane, Charles H.-Affidavit as to snake bite. No date found. W-Married William Cannon to Alsey Peters in 1880. Linn, Margaret-1895-age 69 years – lived 5 miles S.E.of Purdy. Helped to care for the first wife of William Cannon during her last illness. Linn, Peth (?)-Witness to affidavit of Margaret Linn in 1895. Linn, William-1883-age 55 years-occupation farmer-PO address Purdy, Barry County. Lived about 2 ½ miles from William Cannon. Alsey Cannon stated that he was the only close neighbor still living in 1895. Loomis, David-Present at William Cannon’s death. Lived 1895 “beyond Cassville”. Marbut, James M.-1883-age 58 years-occupation farmer-PO address McDowell, Barry County. Lived about five miles from William Cannon. He, James M. Marbut, acted as constable in Barry Co. before the war. His affidavit and deposition were not conducive to William Cannon being awarded a pension. William Cannon protested his depositon. It was noted by Cannon’s attorney that J.M. Marbut during the Rebellion was a sympathizer with the enemy …… and was well known as an opponant of pensions to Union Soldiers. William Cannon testified under oath that if Judge Marbut is in error if he stated that he knew him before the war as they were not personally acquainted. Pennel, James T.-Justice of the Peace-a certificate which says that his term of office commenced on the 9th day of November 1894 and will expire on the 9th day of November 1898. Gave an affidavit in 1895 which stated that he lived 1 ½ miles N.E. of Butterfield and his age was 47. Knew William Cannon well and worked with him after the war.
