The following is local news from the Cassville Republican, dated Nov. 4, 1880, under the heading: HERE AND ELSEWHERE Election is over. (Election Returns follow) Long faces are numerous. Dick Tucker was up to town Wednesday. Pat Pharis had a good horse to die this week. Our next Presidents are Garfield and Arthur. A. J. Stewart of Washburn was in town Wednesday. Geiger is elected Circuit Judge and don't you forget it. On account of the election we are rather late this week. Hurrah for Horace Williams is the cry, and we say amen. John Kissley and Helen Grubbs were married on last Sunday. Old Jasper and Lawrence counties went solidly Republican. Dr. Plummer and wife have both been on the sick list for several days. Haseltine is elected by a majority somewhere between 100 and 1,000 votes Dr. Wash Speece was in town this week. We understand he is drumming. Horace Williams is our collector for the next two years and don't disremember it. Last Saturday night, the Garfield and Arthur Club was attended by a large crowd. The election is over and our columns can now be devoted to miscellaneous news. Mrs. Pharis presented us with a beet, this week that weighed nine pounds. Immense. There was a circus and menagery at Washburn last Saturday. Everything passed off quietly. Wednesday night the Republican boys shot three or four shots to every single shot fired by the Democrats. If you want to save money, don't make your fall and winter purchases till you have priced our goods. TERRY & CHAMBERLAIN. The smiling countenance of Wes Roberts could have been seen in our midst this week. Wes is the same jovial fellow of old. Brown Republican candidate for Constable in Flat Creek Township was elected by a majority of 25 over Eden, "And don't you forget it." The Democrats are going to outdo Tanner in the fasting line. They have resolved to try a 40 years fast and we are willing to bet that they will succeed. Jno. W. Manning was made the father of a bouncing 7-pound boy last Sunday. That accounts for the dignified appearance of John the last few days. All are doing well. Don't forget that we have a large line of Army Overcoats, Dress Coats and Jackets. These goods are fifty per cent cheaper than any in the market at same prices. TERRY & CHAMBERLAIN. Flat Creek Township, the citizens of which have the best chance to witness the action of the Democratic Court House Ring, repudiated them by giving the township to the Republicans by a neat majority. Last Saturday night, as Riley Talbert was getting ready to return home from the Garfield and Arthur Club meeting, his team took fright and ran away. The hack to which they were hitched was broken to pieces. You can find at Terry & Chamberlain's, best, assorted and cheapest stock of goods in the county. Pay no attention to what others may say to the contrary. Don’t take our word for it but come and see for yourselves. The election returns in the Cassville Democrat this week are the poorest excuse at election returns of anything we ever saw. In order to ascertain the vote any candidate received in the different townships you have to hunt all over the paper. We advise them to hang up and quit the business. OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ARTICLES A CARD Cassville Mo., Nov. 4th 1880 Mr. Editor: The undersigned desire to express through your paper their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the citizens of Cassville for the sympathy shown by them in our recent severe affliction and bereavement in the loss of daughter Ida. We came among you as strangers, but the kind treatment received will ever find a warm place in our memories. May God bless you one and all, will be the prayer of MR. AND MRS. A. J. LAWRENCE. DIED On last Saturday night Miss Ida G. Lawrence aged 16 years 1 month and 24 days, departed this life to join the bright throng in heaven. Ida was the daughter of Mr. A. J. Lawrence of this place. Ida was a very interesting and energetic young lady, of more than ordinary ability and energy, and was the pride of her fond parents. Although but a short time in our midst, she had made many warm friends who will ever hold her in fond remembrance. The bereaved parents and friends have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. SAWMILL FOR SALE. The undersigned offers for sale his one-half interest in the sawmill owned by Black & Willcox; situated on Little Flat creek, near Morg. Kelton's mill. This mill is twenty-four horsepower and all the machinery is in good condition. Terms, $500 in cash. Address, Verona, Lawrence County, Mo. J. M. BLACK. NEW SADDLE & HARNESS SHOP. M. S. Abernathy At the northeast corner of the square Cassville, Mo., will keep on hand an assortment of ready-made saddles and harness. Work will be done to order when desired. Repairing done in a first-class manner on short notice. Call and examine goods and prices and we will risk the consequences. VALEDICTORY In assuming Editorial charge of this paper our Salutatory was very brief and our Valedictory shall be correspondingly brief. Our heart and soul were embarked in the cause. We entered it conscientious by believing it was right, and we are still firm in the belief that we are in the right. Those principles have triumphed in National affairs but in State and County affairs they have not met with that degree of success that was desirable, but we trust that with two years more of the same ratio of progress as in the past, Barry County will be triumphantly Republican thus assimilating herself with the triumphant North. These are our views in brief and with this we turn over the Editorial charge of this paper to that Noble Romen T. M. Allen. With this I subscribe myself very truly, ALFRED GENSEL. This chart for election results in Barry County was transcribed from the Cassville Republican dated Nov. 4, 1880. The office that each candidate was running for was not given. Question marks were substituted for numbers that were not legible. BARRY COUNTY ELECTION RETURNS Below we give the official election returns for Barry County. We have exercised great care in getting the correct figures from the County Clerk, and believe that our efforts in this direction will prove of much interest to our readers.
