Barry County Missouri Obituary - John Talbert Burnett 1845 - 1917 John Talbert Burnett 1845 - 1917 Submitted by Donna Haddock Cooper Obituary for John Burnett, Cassville Democrat Newspaper, 31 Mar. 1917 "John Burnett, a prominent citizen and old soldier died at his son Bill's on Trent Creek, Monday afternoon (Mar. 26th). His son Elbert came in from Oklahoma on Tuesday. John served in the War between the States as a Federal in Company D., 15th Missouri Infantry. He enlisted on 22 Sept. 1862 and was honorably discharged at Victory, Texas in Oct., 1865." Additional Notes: Was born Apr. 24, 1845 in Platte Co., MO. the son of Wilson Cornelius & Mary (Liggett) Burnett. He married Susan Ellen (Masoner) Burnett 1866 in Platte Co., MO. She was the dt of George & Agnes (Lauderdale) Masoner, Jr. John Burnett served as a Union soldier during the Civil War. In his military papers there were statements about different events of the war. He stated that the one of the things he witnessed at the Battle of Spring Hill was a man who had lost both arms carrying a bucket of water with his teeth to a dying comrade. John & Susan Burnett's daughter Polly Burnett married John Marion Woodard and they lived west of Washburn in Barry Co.
