THURMAN (Democrat), of Lamar, Barton county, was born to Miller county, June 25, 1851; was educated in the public schools and University of Missouri, graduating from the law department of the university in March, 1873; was admitted to the bar in Barton county in 1873, removing soon after to Greenfield, Dade county, where he entered upon the practice of his profession; elected Prosecuting Attorney of Dade county in 1874, being the first Democrat elected to any office in the county since the war, the Republican majority at the time being about four hundred; re-elected in 1878; was for three years proprietor and editor of the Dade county Advocate, the Democratic organ of the county, removed to Lamar, Barton county in 1882; was nominated for State Senator, and elected to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of Lieutenant-Governor Claycomb; is a member of the law firm of Thurman, Wray and Stephens, of Lamar: taken an active part in politics, and was a delegate to the St. Louis convention that nominated Cleveland and Thurman.
