Benton County, Missouri Deaths & Obituaries - Ficken Family >From Sedalia Journal, 20 March 1879 (translated from German) Dead: On the 15th died in Cole Camp, Mr. Peter Ficken, one of the oldest settlers and esteemed citizens of the county. The deceased left behind a grieving widow, mourning children, and a great many friends. Peace to his ashes. >From Warsaw Enterprise, date unknown Died--Monday May 11, 1896 William Ficken, son of Henry Ficken, who had gone to Lincoln with a load of hogs. After disposing of them, he went to the lumber yard and loaded his wagon with shingles. When ready to start, his mules became frightened, and on his insecure seat on the shingles he was unable to control them. They ran about 25 yards and making a sudden turn, he was thrown to the ground in front of the wagon and fell under a front wheel, killing him instantly. Leaves a wife and two children. A few years ago, Mr. Ficken had another son killed by falling from a load of hay which he was taking to Windsor. He now has only one son. >From Cole Camp Courier, Nov 2, 1933 (in part) Henry Ficken, well known retired citizen of this city died at 11:20 o'clock Wednesday morning. He reached the advanced age of 84 years, 8 months, and 18 days. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. H. Scherer, pastor of the United Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. >From Cole Camp Courier, Nov 9, 1933 (in part) Old Resident Laid to Rest. Henry Ficken was the son of Peter and Gasena Ficken and was born February 14, 1849 on a farm two miles south of Cole Camp. He spent his youth in the Balke Prairie neighborhood and confessed his Savior by becoming a member of Monsees Lutheran Church. Mr Ficken was twice married, his first marriage being with Miss Anna Margaret Cordes in 1867. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters, of whom the three sons preceded their father in death. Two years after the death of his first wife in 1912, he was married to Miss Anna Wilson who survives. For many years he lived south of Ionia, having moved there in 1884. In 1916 he retired and moved to Sedalia where he resided five years. He returned to Cole Camp in 1921. The deceased is survived by his wife Anna C. Ficken, two daughters, Anna - Mrs Wm. Keuper of Ionia, and Katherine - Mrs G. C. Cast of Appleton, Wisc., ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, one brother John Ficken, and one half-sister Mrs Peter Reck of Collinsville, Okla. [Errors: 1st marriage was 1868, 1st wife died 1913, brother John P. Ficken and half-sister Dora (Ficken) Reck preceded him in death] Henry Ficken was the last surviving child of Peter & Gesche (Knoop) Ficken, who came to Benton County in 1839.
