PLEASANTVILLE CEMETERY, BOONE COUNTY, MISSOURI (Formerly known as DANTOWN Cemetery) Located near the community of Mystic, MO (Located in Section 20, Twp. 62, Range 18, Union Township, Sullivan Co., MO about one mile west of Mystic and laid out in 1854) Page 2 DIRECTIONS: Take Route 6 east from Milan, MO to Green City, turn south on MO. 129 to County Road ‘C’, turn west for 1/2 mile to Robin, turn left (south) on Robin for approximately 50 feet, turn right on the road that appears to be a cattle trail, go 1/2 mile west and the road ends in the cemetery on the top of a hill. Alternate route: From U.S. 36, west of Macon, take Mo. 129 North to ‘C’. Follow directions below. The road is dirt and gravel overgrown with grass. Road is passable in dry weather, would not advise trying to drive in wet weather OR with an extremely low ground clearance vehicle. It is negotiable in a standard passenger vehicle or pickup truck. CAUTION: At the end of the road in the cemetery, it will be necessary to straddle the ruts in the road. CONDITIONS: Pleasantville Cemetery is overgrown with weeds with the height ranging from 6 inches to 5 feet tall. Some of the tombstones have been dislodged and broken by the tractor mower and by age. Many of the stones are not readable because of aging and weathering. Anyone wishing to transcribe the stones is advised to have available baking soda, camel hair brushes, nylon scrub brush, probe rod, shovel and protective clothing. A further caution - ticks and chiggers are abundant within the area. Most of the headstones are from the 1880’s, however, there are some that are newer, in the 1930’s to the 1970’s. INFORMATION: Because of the condition of the headstones, lack of equipment and time limitations, a full transcription of the cemetery was not attempted. However, the surnames that were visible on the tombstones are listed in alphabetical order beginning on Page 3.
