Biographical Sketch of T. J. Ashford, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** T. J. Ashford, carpenter and builder, is a native of Woodford County, Kentucky, and was born July 14, 1827, and was raised and learned his trade in his native State. In 1853, he came to Savannah, Andrew County, and worked at his trade until 1872, when he came to St. Joseph. For a time, he was in the employ of Bailey, Wood & Co., as shipping clerk, and also in the same capacity with other houses. The remainder of the time has been devoted to building, in which branch he has his share of the trade. He is a man of clear judgement, a fluent conversationalist, and commands the respect of his fellow citizens. In 1849, he married Miss Martha J. Clare. They have a family of twelve children: Thomas K., George W., Lewis, John, Bettie (now Mrs. Duncan), Addie, Allie, Emma, Tillie, Mattie, Vinnie and Gabriel (deceased). Himself and family are members of the Christian Church.
