Biographical Sketch of Adam Axhelm, Jr., St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Adam Axhelm, Jr., merchant. One of Buchanan County, Missouri's early settlers was Adam Axhelm, Sr., who took up his abode in St. Joseph in 1853. The subject of this sketch was born in Erie County, Penn., on March 27, 1850, and came to St. Joseph with his parents in 1853, and was here raised and educated. Mr. Axhelm has been twice married; first, in 1869, to Miss Mary E. Tharp. By this union they had three children, one of whom is living, Charles. He lost two children, Lena and Augusta. Mrs. Axhelm died in 1874. In 1878, Mrs. Mary Leip be- came his second wife. They have one daughter, Lena.
