Biographical Sketch of Thomas Ashton, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Thomas Ashton, farmer and broker, Washington Township, Section 33; Post office, St. Joseph. Was born in New York City, on October 30, 1826. When but a child, his parents moved to Mason County, Kentucky, where he was raised and educated. From 1848, he was contracting for the planters, being located at Vicksburg and New Orleans. In 1855, he came to Missouri, and located in Buchanan County. His landed estate consists of about 300 acres, his improvements being among the best in the county. He also has a very large orchard, containing over 1,000 bearing trees. He was married on September 12, 1850 to Miss Lucinda B. Small, who was born in Mason County, Kentucky, on April 8, 1834.
