Biographical Sketch of James D. Barbee, Crawford Township, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** James D. Barbee, farmer, section 28, postoffice Wallace, is a native of Kentucky, and was born January 2, 1827. He was reared upon a farm, and received a good common English education. He emigrated to Missouri in 1848, locating in Platte County, where he engaged in farming; he came to Buchanan County in 1865. He was married in January, 1852, to Miss Amanda Miller, also a native of Kentucky. She was born June 14, 1834. They have had eleven children: John, Mollie, Eliza, Emma, Kate, Lou, James, Effie, Agnes, Myra and Hattie. The two oldest children are de- ceased. Mr. Barbee served in the Confederate army for four years in Company I, First Missouri Cavalry. He was wounded in the head slightly at Blakely, Alabama, and was taken prisoner at Vicksburg and Blakely, but was paroled and exchanged. He is a Mason and a member of the Miss- ionary Baptist Church. He has 77 acres of land which was give him by his father-in-law.
