Biographical Sketch of Andrew Burvenich, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Andrew Burvenich was born in Cologne, Germany, April 22, 1826, and was there raised to manhood and learned the trade of cabinet making. In 1856, he came to America, and the same year located in St. Joseph. For a time worked at his trade, when he engaged in contracting and building, and many structures of the city were built under his super- vision. At the breaking out of the rebellion, Mr. Burvenich tendered his services to the Union cause, enlisting in Company A, First Kansas Infantry; participated in the battle of Wilson's Creek and other not- able engagements; was honorably discharged after serving three years. He was married in Germany to Miss Elizabeth Schaeffer. They have had nine children, eight of whom are living: Maggie, Anton, John, Mary, Andrew, Jr., Lizzie, Teresa and Henry. They lost one, Tillie.
