Biographical Sketch of J. H. Collins, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** J. H. Collins was born in Lewis County, New York, December 9, 1847. He was raised on a farm until he attained his fifteenth year, and then commenced to learn the trade he now pursues in Boonville, of the Empire State, working in other towns before completing it. In 1868, he came to St. Joseph, opened a shop, and has since been spreading white lead, distemper colors, etc., with a considerable degree of success. He is a finished workman in the artistic line, and in paper hanging he is the ne plus ultra. In 1873, becoming aware that in order to be successful in any calling it was re- quisite to have a partner, he married Miss M. McIntyre.
