Biographical Sketch of Daniel Duffy, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Duffy Brothers, grocers. One of the prominent business houses of the eastern part of the city is the establishment of Duffy Brothers. Mr. Daniel Duffy was born in County Donegal, Ireland, September 10, 1837, and was there raised to manhood and educated. In 1863, he came to America, living temporarily in different parts of the country until 1865, when he took up his abode in St. Joseph. For a time he was in the employ of J.D. McNeely. In 1869, he engaged in trade and in the spring of 1880, he commenced the manufacture of brick, in connection with their business. In this branch of industry they do a flourishing trade. During the year of 1880, their entire business footed up $20,000, and the year 1881 promises to far excel this. Bernard Duffy, the junion member of the firm is a native of Ireland, and was born in County Donegal, May 15, 1850. He became a resident of St. Joseph in 1869.
