Biographical Sketch of J. P. Emmert, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** J. P. Emmert, dealer in live stock, is a native of Pennsylvania, and was born in 1844. He emigrated to Illinois in 1851, and remained there until 1861, when he enlisted in the Thirty seventh Regiment, Illinois Infantry, and was in the service three years, under General Herron Totten, entering as a private and returning as Sergeant. He was raised on a farm, and engaged in the stock business in 1868. He came to St. Joseph in 1873, and took charge of the stock yards until 1877, and since then has been in the commission and forwarding busi- ness.
