Biographical Sketch of S. L. Fleming, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** S. L. Fleming, the popular representative of the new American sewing machine, is a native of Canada, and was born February 23, 1845. When twelve years of age, he removed to Chillicothe, Ohio, where he was raised and educated, commencing the sewing machine trade when young. He was a resident of the Buckeye State until 1880, when he took up his abode in St. Joseph, Missouri. Although but a short time in the city, he has made hosts of friends, by his affability, and business qualifications. He married in 1876, Miss N. F. Bond, of Ohio. They have two children by this union, John B. and Annie A.
