Biographical Sketch of Martin Gill, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Martin Gill, of the firm of Gill & Son, dealers in staple and fancy groceries, is a native of Ireland, and was born in the County Galway, November 8, 1831; was there reared and educated, and in 1852 came to America, residing in different places until 1858, when he became a citizen of St. Joseph, Missouri. For a time he was in the employ of the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad, and for a number of years was car inspector of the Kansas City, St. Joseph & Council Bluffs Rail- road. In 1877, he engaged in his present business. His trade, which is large and increasing, is a sufficient testimonial of his popularity. He married, March 4, 1854, Miss Maria Winston.
