Biographical Sketch of Theodore Griswold, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Theodore Griwold, deceased, was born in Genoa, New York, in 1823 and in 1859 came to St. Joseph, Missouri, where for many years, he was success- fully engaged in the insurance business. After retiring from this voca- tion, he was employed as a clerk in a large mercantile house. He was married to Miss Clarrissa D. Hayes, in New York City, in 1850. They had five children: Theodore D., Lizzie J., Nellie, Ruth and Benjamin. Mr. Griswold died in 1877, leaving a loving family and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. His eldest daughter, Miss Lizzie Griswold, graduated from the high school in 1873, and is an excellent scholar and successful teacher.
