Biographical Sketch of R. F. Greer, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** R. F. Greer, dealer in general merchandise, was born in Edgar County, Illinois, September 23, 1830, and when quite young, removed with his parents to Vigo County, Indiana. He remained in that state until August, 1862, when he tendered his services to the Union cause, en- listing in Company E, Seventy first Indiana, and served two years and ten months, when he was honorably discharged. In 1865, he came to Missouri, and engaged in trade six miles east of St. Joseph, con- tinuing there for several years. After this he was in the employ of A. A. McIninch, for five years.
