Biographical Sketch of James Hoy, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** James Hoy, of the firm of James Hoy & Son, ice dealers, was born in County Louth, Ireland, and came to America with his parents when seven years of age, locating in Maryland, and was there raised to manhood and educated. He came west in 1855, locating at Sioux City, Iowa, where he resided a few years. He owned one-half the land, and assisted in laying out the town of Covington, Nebraska, and in 1858 came to St. Joseph. For a number of years he was engaged in trade, and for two years has confined his attention to the ice business. In 1861, he was married to Miss Ann Shea.
