Biographical Sketch of James Hall, Bloomington Township, Buchanan
County, MO

James Hall, retired farmer, section 1, postoffice DeKalb, was born
November 19, 1808, and is a native of Powell County, Kentucky. He
was raised in his native county on a farm and was educated in the
common schools. His father having died when he was but eight years
of age, his educational advantages were very much limited. Since
seventeen years of age he has been his own architect. He has follow-
ed farming from boyhood; was married to Miss Julia A. McPherson on
December 25, 1828. She was born in Clark County, Kentucky about 1813
and died July 8, 1878. They had eight children, six of whom are now
living: William A., Permelia E., Francis M., Henry H., Martha A. and
Kate. In 1829 Mr. Hall emigrated to Decatur County, Indiana and in
the fall of 1837 he moved to Jackson County, Missouri, where he re-
mained till the following spring, when he moved to Platte County. In
the fall of 1841 he came to his present location. His farm contains
192 acres of land, which is moderately improved. Mr. Hall has been
a member of the Christian Church for thirty one years, and is a
Mason and member of Wellington Lodge, No. 22, of which he has been a
member for about twenty five years.
