He came to the United States in 1853, his father, Matthias, locating with the family in St. Joseph, where he was a constant resident. Our subject engaged in working at his trade, and today in St. Joseph there are many specimens of his skill, among which are the St. Joseph and New Ulm breweries, the canning factory and others. In 1873, he met with a severe loss. He constructed the Exposition building, and as it neared completion, a cyclone demolished the entire structure. It crippled his finances to an alarming extent, but with an energy characteristic of a German, soon recovered his losses. He was married in Dubuque, Iowa, to Miss Tris Waldenspul. They have two children: Anson and Herman, a promising young man, and a carpenter. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
