Biographical Sketch of John M. Johnston, engineer, with F. L. Sommer & Co., was born in the Lowlands of Scotland, October 10, 1840, and was there reared to man- hood, educated and learned his trade. In 1866, John came to the United States, and took up his abode in St. Joseph, Missouri. During his residence here he has been in the employ of John Burnside, J. W. Ambrose and Kansas City, St. Joseph & Council Bluffs Railroad Co. He is a close observer in mechanism, and keeps pace with the progress of the scientific world. He married in Scotland, Miss Agnes Welch. They have a family of three children: James, Mary and David.
