Biographical Sketch of James W. Mitchell, Bloomington Township, Buchanan
County, MO

James W. Mitchell, farmer, section 25, postoffice DeKalb, was born in
Fairfax County, Virginia, April 20, 1833, and was raised on a farm in
his native county. In 1853, he came to Buchanan County, Missouri and
in 1856 moved to Atchison County, Kansas where he remained about three
years. Then went to Colorado, where he was engaged in mining until
1862, when he returned to Buchanan County, Missouri. His farm con-
tains 106 acres. Was married, January 28, 1858, to Miss Sarah J.
Bryant. She was born in Buchanan County, Missouri on October 9, 1839.
They have had nine children, seven of whom are living: Robert H., born
March 11, 1859; Hugh B., born September 13, 1861; Anna L., born Decem-
ber 13, 1865; Elizabeth M., born November 18, 1867; Francis D., born
January 18, 1870; Rose E., born September 7, 1872; Mary F., born Nov-
ember 22, 1874. Mr. Mitchell is a member of the Christian Church, and
his wife worships with the Baptist denomination.
