Biographical Sketch of E. M. Niles, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** E. M. Niles, of Niles, Riblet & Co., proprietors of the Vulcan Machine Shop, manufacturers of engines, boilers, etc., is a native of New London County, Connecticut, and was born February 6, 1840. When quite young he came West, and located at Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he resided four years, and learned the machinists trade. He resided in Colorado and other localities until 1866, when he became a resident of St. Joseph. For several years he was foreman in the foundry now operated by Crowther & Rogers, and for nine years was in the employ of the Kansas City, St. Joseph and Council Bluffs Railroad Company. In the spring of 1881, he engaged in trade. He has had a varied experience as a machinist, and is a very thorough one. He was married in 1870, to Miss Annie Tracy.
