Biographical Sketch of John S. Pickett, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** John S. Pickett, farmer, Section 22, Post office St. Joseph, was born in Kenton County, Kentucky, December 12, 1805 and in 1837 came to Missouri and located in Clay County. In 1841, he moved to Platte County, and in 1845, came to Buchanan County; has principally followed farming during life, but has also worked at the carpenters trade. His landed estate consists of about seven hundred acres of choice land, most of which is well improved. He was married in December, 1826, to Miss Juda Benson, who was born in Kenton County, Kentucky. She died in 1848, leaving nine children, four of whom are living: William, Elijah, John and Lavina. Mrs. Eliza Lacy, of Kentucky, became his second wife, her maiden name being Tar.
