Biographical Sketch of Preston Ramsey, M. D., Bloomington Township, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Preston Ramsey, M. D., DeKalb, was born May 15, 1833, and is a native of Clark County, Kentucky. He was raised and educated in this county, and when eighteen years of age began the study of medicine under Dr. James Hood, of Winchester, Kentucky, and graduated in the University of Louisville, Kentucky in the spring of 1857. He then pursued his practice in Clark County about two years, when he went to Philadelphia and remained six months. While there he attended the Philadelphia Medical School, and, at the same time, visited all the principal hos- pitals of the city. He then returned to Clark County, Kentucky where he continued to practice till the spring of 1867, when he moved to DeKalb, Missouri, where he now resides. His residence denotes comfort and prosperity. Miss Mary E. Merrit became his wife, March 15, 1860. She was born in Philadelphia on December 18, 1841 and died May 5, 1874. They had seven children, five now living: Fanny F., born June 29, 1862; John M., born August 2, 1864; Lenora, born October 29, 1865; Mary E., born April 8, 1868 and James S., born April 30, 1872.
