Biographical Sketch of Elijah Watson, Rush Township, Buchanan County, MO >From "History of Buchanan County, Missouri, Published 1881, St. Joseph Steam Printing Company, Printers, Binders, Etc., St. Joseph, Missouri. ********************************************************************** Elijah Watson, postmaster, Rushville, was born in Felming County, Kentucky, April 25, 1816 and was raised on a farm and educated in the pioneer school houses. In 1845, he came to Buchanan County, and loca- ted in section 12, at that time but a wilderness. He reamined in this location about eight years and then moved to Rushville, where he began in the mercantile business. In this he continued until 1855, after which he did business for other parties until about 1877. Since 1876 he has used most of his time in prospecting for the lost boat Pontiac, which sank April 16, 1852, and of which mention is made elsewhere in our history. Mr. Watson has been postmaster since June 10, 1854, and was justice of the peace for fourteen years. He was again re elected but would not accept the position. He was married, September 11, 1838 to Miss Gracie Seever. She was born in Illinois and raised in Ken- tucky.
